Sources: IS Executes Group’s Kurdish Members

QAMISHLO—The Islamic State (IS) has executed dozens of its Kurdish members for refusing to join the group's military campaign against the Kurdish areas of Syria, a source told Rudaw.

According to one source who didn’t want to be named, since the start of IS’s attack on the Kurdish city of Kobane and its surrounding villages last week, leaders of the group have executed 40 Kurdish members.

Other sources said that the Kurdish members of the IS had objected to the killing of innocent villagers and looting their homes.

The executions are said to have taken place in Tal Hamis village, 30 kilometers south of Qamishlo, the largest Kurdish city in Syria.

Tal Hamis has seen some of the heaviest fighting between IS militants and the Kurdish Peoples Protection Unions (YPG).

The YPG controlled the town last year but lost it to IS jihadis last week.

Earlier this month unconfirmed reports out of Mosul said that the IS had executed several of its Kurdish members on charges of spying for the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

The report said that the radical group had banned all Kurdish communication among its members.
