ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—A ceasefire has been declared in Qamishlo in Rojava, Syria. The ceasefire between Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Syrian army came into force at 3.30 this afternoon, ending days of fighting between the two forces.
More than 50 have been killed in clashes in the city and many more wounded.
The border between Rojava, Syrian Kurdistan, and the Kurdistan region was opened today in order to allow wounded from clashes in Qamishlo entry into the Kurdistan region to receive medical care.
The border was opened on the instructions of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) President Masoud Barzani. “All health institutions and hospitals in the Kurdistan region are preparing to treat the wounded coming from Qamishlo,” Barzani said in a statement asking for health care providers to mobilize to assist the wounded.
