Hezbollah responds to Brussels attack, says it will continue to support Assad

The Hezbollah militia in Lebanon joined its ally in Damascus, the Syrian regime of President Bashar al-Assad, and called on world powers to stop supporting terrorist groups in Syria following the Brussels bombing on Tuesday.

“Hezbollah sees these blasts as part of the danger posed by the takfiri terrorist groups which have not spared the world from its evils and crimes,” read a statement released by the group mere hours after Brussels was hit by three bombings, two in its airport and one in its metro.

“These crimes, which are being transferred to the world’s cities, are being committed by the takfiris, and it is the responsibility of regional and international forces to stop supporting them ideologically, morally and financially,” the statement added.

Hezbollah also vowed on Monday that it will continue fighting alongside the Assad regime until Islamic State (ISIS) is destroyed.

“We went to Syria to help keep the country from falling into the hands of Daesh [ISIS] and Al-Nusra Front… So long as we have a responsibility to be there, we will be there,” Hezbollah's chief Hassan Nasrallah told Lebanon’s Al-Mayadeen channel on Monday.

Hezbollah has been fighting in Syria on the side of the regime, and its Iranian backers, since mid-2013. It is believed to have lost approximately 1,400 of its fighters in that war to date.

Also Nasrallah warned off his traditional arch-enemy, Israel: “If the Israeli Army escalates its aggression against Lebanon, Hezbollah will strike all the strategic targets in the occupied Palestinian targets, including the nuclear facilities.”

“Hezbollah possesses all the details about the positions of the petrochemical, biological and nuclear facilities across Palestine,” he went on to claim.
