Smell of death still lingers in Raqqa 1 year since liberation
Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), backed by massive international coalition airpower, liberated the Syrian city of Raqqa from Islamic State (ISIS) control just over a year ago. Twelve months on, the bodies of fighters and civilians are still being exhumed from the rubble and mass graves.
In the past year, around 3,000 corpses have been extracted from the ruins of Raqqa, and an additional 2,000 from mass graves.
