Thousands mourn two Kurdish fighters killed in northeast Syria

Abbas Abbas and Ridwan al-Hamidi were two members of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Qamishli, northeast Syria killed by a Turkish military drone on Sunday, according to local security forces.

Thousands of locals and relatives of the dead, as well as officials and commanders attended their funerals on Monday.

Mourners gathered at Martyr Delil Sarokhan cemetery in the city.

The SDF has been in control of most of northeast Syria for years, but has been attacked by Turkish forces and their Syrian proxies multiple times in the last three years.

The so-called Operation Peace Spring was the latest Turkish offensive against the SDF, which has been the main ally of the US-led Global Coalition against Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria since 2014.
