Two rockets land at Baghdad's Taji base, no casualties: Iraq military
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region —Two rockets fell at a training base hosting US troops north of Baghdad on Saturday night, Iraqi military authorities have announced.
No casualties were reported when the rockets landed at Taji training base, Iraq's Joint Operations Command said.
"These [unknown] parties launched Katyusha rockets on Saturday...they fell inside Taji camp (belonging to Iraqi security forces) without losses, in a message that they do not want good for Iraq and its people," read the Joint Operations Command statement.
An intelligence-led investigation to determine the perpetrators will be undertaken upon "urgent direction", the statement added.
Located north of Baghdad, Taji hosts US military personnel to advise and train Iraqi troops in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS).
Like other sites hosting foreign troops, the base has been a frequent target of rocket attacks, blamed most commonly on Iran-backed Iraqi militias.
A rocket attack on Taji in March killed two Americans and one Briton, and the base was among several targeted in rocket attacks by Iran-backed militias following the US assassination of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in January.
Other sites of US interest in Iraq are also prone to strikes, with a rocket landing near the US embassy in Baghdad’s Green Zone just two days ago.
