Clashes erupt between Kurdish forces and Syrian army in Hasaka
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Military clashes between the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) and Syrian regime forces erupted in the city of Hasaka in Syria Kurdistan (Rojava) on Sunday.
A well placed source inside Hasakah told Rudaw that the fight between YPG fighters and Syrian army soldiers took place near the city's Marsho intersection.
The source added that the clashes occurred close to the YPG and Syrian government positions in the city.
While not at war both sides have clashed in the past in Hasakah where both control portions of the city. When ISIS was pushed out last year however the YPG came to control most of the city with the Syrian military retaining only a sizable foothold. None of these clashes escalated into a full-blown conflict between the two sides.
In the meantime, the Russian defense ministry announced that in the course of 24 hours the ceasefire in Syrian has been violated by the warring parties 29 times.
