A walk through Shaddadi after its recapture from ISIS
(AP)- Western journalists gained access to the northern Syrian town of Al-Shaddadi this week, after the expulsion of Islamic State group militants who controlled it for two years.
The team from the British news channel Sky walked through abandoned houses, many of which contained bunkers and escape tunnels.
They were also shown a hotel, which it was claimed, had been used by Islamic State militants to assault women.
Numerous weapons, explosives and military equipment could also be seen.
One of the residents who stayed in the town described how women in the street would be attacked with electric prods if they showed too much skin.
Many of the buildings in the town were damaged or destroyed and a number of bombs could be found in buildings and on the street.
