Water shortages hit Hasaka

HASAKA, Syria — Renewed water shortages have hit Hasaka in northeast Syria (Rojava).

Water flow from the Allouk water station has been stopped by Turkish-backed proxies, leaving residents struggling for more than three weeks. 

"We’ve been without water for 22 days. All the people depend on salt water or the wells," said local resident Ahmed Badir. 

Some people rely on water tankers, but there is not enough water to go around. 

"Our phones are always ringing. We urge the NGOs to truck water to people for free. We transport the water from the al-Hima water wells on Tel Tamr road, it’s 25 km from here. We stay in line for six hours to refill the tanker," said water tanker owner Omran Hussein. 

Turkish-backed proxies have repeatedly cut the water flow from Allouk, with water shortages a common occurrence in Hasaka.
