Assyrian Christian group fights ISIS in Syria

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Since the fragmentation of Syria following the 2011 Arab Spring, Christian minorities have frequently come under attack by religious extremists.

However, since 2013 in parts of Kurdish controlled Syria, Assyrian self-defense units have been established with the aid of Kurdish factions to defend their lands and people. Founded in 2013, the Assyrian Christian Sutoro group is now fighting ISIS in northern Syria.

Members of the group spoke to Rudaw in the above video.
