US-led airstrikes in eastern Syria allegedly killed 59 civilians since May 1st

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - At least seven civilians were reported killed on Wednesday night by airstrikes allegedly from the US-led coalition in al-Sour town in Deir Ezzor, eastern Syria , said human rights organizations.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that seven people including 4 children were killed and many others wounded and that “the death toll is expected to rise because there are people with critical injuries.”

The observatory also reported that casualties among civilians caused by airstrikes of the US-led coalition since the beginning of May 2017 rose to 59 persons.

Of this number, it added, “19 children under the age of 18 and 9 citizen women over the age of 18 who were killed due to strikes by the International Coalition’s warplanes on al-Tabaqa city,” in the northern ISIS stronghold Raqqah.

Warplanes from the US-led global coalition have been backing a wide scale operation from Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Raqqah and its vicinities to drive ISIS out of the region.

On Wednesday the SDF announced it had "fully liberated" Tabqa Dam from ISIS, a day after the US announced it would further its partnered forces in northern Syria.

"Syrian Democratic Forces have fully liberated Tabqah Dam. Security operations continue in the area," read a tweet from the Peoples' Protection Units (YPG).

YPG and Syrian Arab Coalition (SAC) members dually comprise the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which the US-led international coalition has been supporting in the fight against ISIS.
