Aleppo airport to resume flights after Israeli strikes ​

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Flights from Syria’s Aleppo airport were to resume on Friday following an Israeli airstrike that put the facility out of service earlier this week.

An Israeli airstrike on Tuesday put Aleppo’s airport out of commission but the Syrian transport ministry on Friday said repairs had been completed and that flights were set to resume at "12:00 pm" midday. 

The strike was the second hit on the airport in a week, which a conflict monitor said it targeted a warehouse used by Iran-backed militias.

Iran on Monday rejected the “absurd claims” of Israel striking its bases and troops in Syria.

"We believe that all the actions of the Zionist regime are illegal and illegitimate ... the [regime's] claim that it has attacked Iran's bases is absurd, baseless, and invalid," Iranian foreign ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said.

Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on regime-controlled areas of Syria throughout its 11-year civil war, often claiming to target Iran-affiliated militias.

Although Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes on regime-controlled areas of Syria over the last decade, it rarely acknowledges them.

Three Syrian soldiers were killed and about seven others wounded due to an Israeli strike on Damascus in July.
