Asayish arrest 54 people for theft, murder in Rojava’s Hasaka
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Internal security forces (Asayish) carried out raids across Hasaka province, northeast Syria (Rojava) on Monday, arresting 54 people accused of carrying out robbery, theft and murder crimes, local media reported.
Asayish also confiscated a large quantity of weapons during the raids, according to ANHA news outlet, which is affiliated with the Kurdish administration.
The Kurdish force is yet to comment on the campaign.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that Asayish also cordoned off regime-controlled parts of Hasaka for unknown reasons.
The Kurdish forces in northeast and northern Syria have faced several threats from various armed groups, primarily the Islamic State (ISIS), Iran-backed militants, and pro-Turkey rebels.
Despite its territorial defeat in 2019, after a five-year reign, ISIS continues its attacks on Kurdish forces. The US-led global coalition has provided the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with aerial support.
