Two Turkish soldiers killed by ISIS south of al-Rai, Syria
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—Two Turkish soldiers were killed in an Islamic State (ISIS) rocket attack in northern Syria on Tuesday, the Turkish army confirmed, according to Turkish TV. Another five were wounded.
“Two of our hero comrades were martyred and five were wounded in a rocket attack on two of our tanks by Daesh [ISIS] elements,” NTV reported, quoting the army’s statement.
The rocket attack occurred south of the Syrian border town of al-Rai, on Turkey’s second front in its operation Euphrates Shield in northern Syria. ISIS rockets hit two Turkish tanks in Wuquf village, 3 kilometres south of al-Rai.
Two members of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), the rebel group backed by Turkey, were also killed and two were wounded in the attack.
The wounded were evacuated by helicopter and taken to hospital.
The FSA took control of the villages of Wuquf and Sadwi, Hurriyet Daily News reported.
