ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Kurdish National Council (ENKS/KNC) and the US-led coalition in northeast Syria (Rojava) met in Qamishli on Sunday to discuss a unified Kurdish front to negotiate with the new Syrian government following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

ENKS spokesperson Faysal Yusuf told Rudaw that the meeting with US envoy Scott Bolz stressed the necessity for the opposing Kurdish sides to unite and negotiate in Damascus with “one voice.”

During the meeting, the ENKS delegation asked the US to try to safeguard the rights of Syrian citizens, according to Yusuf.

The ENKS is an umbrella group of Kurdish opposition parties in Rojava. They have been in constant rivalry with the ruling Democratic Union Party (PYD) over influence.

There are calls for a unified Kurdish front amid efforts to resume talks between feuding Kurdish parties in Rojava.

Mazloum Abdi, chief of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), held a meeting late last month with ENKS to pave the way for resolving tensions and resuming talks.

Following the collapse of the Assad regime, the Kurdish National Unity Parties (PYNK) expressed readiness to return to talks with the ENKS. The PYNK is a coalition of 24 parties that have close ties with the PYD and have representatives in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES).

A planned Syrian national dialogue conference in Damascus is set to include both the SDF and ENKS.
