ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Two rockets of unknown origin hit Deir ez-Zor's al-Omar oilfield on Sunday, where the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has a base to fight the Islamic State (ISIS), the SDF said.

“Two rockets of unknown origin fell on the western side of the al-Omar field in Deir ez-Zor, which our forces are using as an advanced base to pursue ISIS terrorist cells,” the SDF said in a tweet, adding that no casualties have been reported.

Deir ez-Zor's military council later denied an attack took place. Coalition spokesperson Col. Wayne Marotto also denied reports of attacks on US bases in the area.

This is the second reported attack on the key oilfield in the past week. It was attacked with artillery late Monday, an SDF source told Rudaw English at the time.

Last week's attack came shortly after members of Iran-backed militia groups were killed in US airstrikes on the Iraq-Syria border.

The al-Omar oilfield is used by the SDF as a base to pursue attacks on ISIS remnants who are active in the province.

The Kurdish-led force announced the arrest of 22 ISIS suspects in a two-day military operation in the province late last month.
