Several killed, tens injured in separate blasts in northeast Syria

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A car bombing in Sari Kani (Ras al-Ain) in northern Syria's Hasaka province killed at least four people and injured many others on Saturday afternoon. Separately, two people were killed and 20 injured in an explosion in Hasaka city.

Four people, including children, died in Sari Kani town when an explosive-laden car blew up, reported North Press Agency (NPA).  

Sari Kani came under control of Turkish-backed Syrian militias after a military offensive in October 2019. The border town, previously under the control of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has been rocked by many explosions in recent months. 

According to the conflict monitor Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, five people were killed, including children, and four others were injured, some seriously.

In a separate incident, two people were killed, including a child, in an explosion in Hasaka near Hikma hospital, reported the SDF-affiliated Hawar News Agency (ANHA). The blast was caused by a grenade thrown by an unknown person and at least 20 people were injured, according to Syrian state media SANA.

"I was in my shop tidying up when I heard the sound of bullets. They were chasing a person from the National Defense, I saw him throw a bomb,” Izzedeen Mustafa, one of the injured in Hasaka told Rudaw’s Vivian Fatah on Saturday.

“Many people were injured – I’m one of them. I saw some of them die," Mustafa said.
