Iraq has sentenced more than 600 foreign ISIS: judiciary

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Iraq has sentenced more than 600 foreigners for membership in ISIS, most of them women, the Supreme Judicial Council announced on Monday.

A total of “616 accused men and women, including juveniles, were put on trial” for membership in ISIS, Abdel Sattar Bayraqdar, spokesperson for the judiciary, said on Monday.

They are 466 women, 42 men, and 108 minors.

Investigations and trials of other suspects are still ongoing, Bayraqdar added.

Iraq has handed down life imprisonment and death sentences to ISIS members, including foreigners, in trials that have been criticized by international monitors for being rushed and not giving voice to the victims.
