Iraq’s new F16s destroy ISIS base, 8 commanders arrested

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region--The Iraqi army destroyed an ISIS base west of Baghdad using its newly bought F16 planes, and arrested 8 ISIS commanders in Abu Ghraib.

“Iraqi warplanes (F16) have destroyed the ISIS media center and some bases in Rumana sub-district in Al-Qaim, northwest of Baghdad near the Syrian border on Wednesday,” reads a statement issued by the media department of the Iraqi operation command. 

“In the operation all the ISIS militants were killed,” the statement continued, adding that the operation was done based on precise intelligence. 

Meanwhile, 30 kilometres west of Baghdad, in the Arab Abbas area of Abu Ghraib, the 17 division of the Iraqi forces attacked an ISIS cell and arrested 8 commanders.

“Among those 8 ISIS commanders are the head of the military execution committee in Fallujah, the man in charge of weapons warehouses, the driver of the Wali [a ruler within the caliphate] of the southern vilayet [governorate], commander of the Hwesh area in Samaraa, and the head of Saqlawya security,” the media department’s statement reported. 

This operation was also carried out based on strong intelligence information about the ISIS cell.
