Explosion hits Babil province: Source

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - At least one explosion took place in Iraq’s Babil province late Tuesday, resulting in several casualties, according to a security source.

The security source told Rudaw on the condition of anonymity that an explosion struck Babil province - south of capital Baghdad. He added that several people were killed and injured in the airstrike.

The strike reportedly hit a military base belonging to pro-Iran militia groups.

It is not clear who carried out the attack.

The pro-Iran militia groups have not commented on the strike.

The incident comes amid escalated tensions between Israel and Hamas movement in Gaza. Iraqi militia groups have supported the latter since it carried out a massive attack on southern Israel in October. The groups have carried out dozens of attacks on US interests in Iraq for Washington’s support for Tel Aviv. The US has responded with deadly airstrikes.
