Rockets land near US-led coalition airbase in Anbar

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - At least five rockets landed near a military airbase housing troops of the US-led coalition in Iraq’s western province of Anbar on Monday evening, a source in the coalition confirmed to Rudaw, the latest of several attacks on the base in recent months.

The source added that the launchpad of the rockets was a few kilometres south of the Anbar's Barwana, and that none of the rockets have succeeded in hitting the base, landing in the surrounding areas of the facility.

No human casualties have been reported as of yet, although the source confirmed that there were material damages.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In recent months, tens of rockets have targeted Iraqi facilities hosting foreign diplomats and soldiers, including the US embassy in Baghdad.

Air defense systems in Iraq on Tuesday intercepted a drone targeting an airbase hosting Iraqi and US forces west of Baghdad.

One rocket landed near Ain al-Asad base on April 30, and the base was also the subject of a drone attack earlier that month.
