US: We have 'full confidence' in Iraqi security to protect diplomatic mission
BAGHDAD, Iraq—Mark Toner, US State Department spokesman, says that the United States has “full confidence” in the Iraqi Security Forces to protect diplomatic missions.
"Under the Vienna Convention, all diplomatic missions are protected by the host country’s security forces,” said Toner. “We have full confidence that the Iraqi Security Forces will meet its obligation."
Baghdad’s Green Zone, taken over today by protesters who stormed the blast walls surrounding the zone in central Baghdad, houses international diplomatic missions, including the American Embassy.
