Top ISIS finance officer gunned down in Anbar
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Police in Iraq’s troubled Anbar province announced Saturday they had gunned down the head of Islamic State's (ISIS) financial affairs alongside a number of other militants.
"On Saturday, Iraqi security forces launched an assault against ISIS militants in eastern Ramadi, killing the group's top finance official Mohammed Samr Badrawi along with a number of militants accompanying Badrawi," a source at the Anbar police media office told Rudaw.
The source added that the Iraqi army and coalition jets were also involved in the assaults.
Military sources have said that ISIS militants are still present on the eastern side of Ramadi, namely Sajaria, Jubia, Hussaibiyah and Khalidiya. It is expected the areas will be liberated by the Iraqi joint forces in the near future.
In order to fortify its position in parts of Ramadi that it occupies, ISIS has been launching sporadic attacks on Iraqi forces.
An Anbar official claimed Wednesday that his forces repelled twin ISIS offensives on the outskirts of Ramadi, killing 35 militants and destroying several car bombs
