ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — After capturing the main ISIS base in north Diyala province, Iraqi security forces Monday found a series of Qurans booby-trapped with explosives by the jihadis.

Speaking in a press conference Monday, Sadiq Husseini, the head of the security committee in Diyala, announced that Iraqi forces backed by Shiite Hashd al-Shaabi militias found the explosive Qurans inside houses, buildings and military bases previously held by ISIS.

The Diyala security committee has not published photos of the booby-trapped Muslim holy books.

Similar booby-trapped Qurans were repeatedly found after the liberation of the Diyala areas of Saadia and Jalawla in December.

Most of Diyala is now under the control of the Iraqi government or Kurdish factions, but ISIS forces have in the past attacked civilians and government officials there.
