Abadi: 'If I cannot protect Iraq, I will leave my post."

BAGHDAD – Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi told a parliament session on Tuesday that Iraqi joint forces have been able to achieve "great victories" and vowed to defend the country and its people.

“If one day I couldn't protect the Iraqi people, I will leave my post,” Abadi said during his speech to Iraqi lawmakers.

The session of Iraqi Parliament  was called to discuss recent security developments in Anbar province, with Abadi joined by Minister of Defense Khaled Obeidi and a number of high-ranking officials.
