Commander: heavy ISIS casualties in coalition airstrikes on Mosul front

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – US-led coalition forces have carried out airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIS) bases and positions on the Khazir front in eastern Mosul, inflicting heavy casualties, a Peshmerga commander said Sunday.

“This afternoon, the warplanes targeted several ISIS bases and assembly areas of the group’s militants, inflicting heavy casualties from the militants, but the number has remained unknown,” Captain Hama Agha told Rudaw.

“With the help of our intelligence information about ISIS positions the airstrikes bombarded their bases in the villages of Wardak, Hamraw, Abzaq and Shanaq, west of the Khazir front,” he added.

A strike team of Apache helicopters from the US-led coalition launched a successful assault on ISIS positions on the Makhmour font, also east of Mosul, early on Thursday, inflicting heavy damage.
