Multiple suicide bombers target east Mosul

MOSUL, Iraq – Three ISIS suicide bombers blew themselves up in east Mosul’s Musana neighborhood, killing and injuring a number of people.

Hismat Rajab, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) office in Mosul, told Rudaw Friday night that three ISIS suicide bombers blew themselves up in Rashan mosque.

“Four people were killed as a result of the explosion and some other people were injured,” he said.

In addition, the Iraqi war media office said security forces killed a suicide bomber before he had a chance to blow himself up in the Zumar district of east Mosul.

The Mosul Eye, historian and blogger documenting life in Mosul under ISIS, claimed that nine suicide bombers had attempted to carry out attacks in east Mosul Friday night. At least one was captured and one killed. He reported that at least three were women and a number of them were wearing police uniforms.

More than 36 were killed in the wave of attacks, according to the Mosul Eye.

East Mosul was declared liberated from ISIS on January 24. Iraqi forces are fighting the terrorist group in its last holdout in western Mosul.
