Allawi calls for regional conference on stability

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – In his meeting with Kamal Kharrazi, the head of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, on Wednesday Ayad Allawi, the President of the Iraq’s National coalition, expressed his willingness to hold a regional conference regarding stability of the region and eliminating outside interference, Allawi’s office said in a statement.

"Ayad Allawai President of the National Coalition welcomed Iranian former foreign minister and current advisor to [Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali] Khamenei’s on foreign relations," the statement read. 

"During the meeting Dr. Ayad Allawi called for a regional conference to discuss ways to support and strengthen the safety of the region," the statement added before reasoning that such a conference is necessary "To stop harmful interventions in the internal affairs of all countries."

Allawi also described Iran’s significant role as "positive" when it comes to building "relationships based on mutual interests, security and stability of the countries."

After his visit to Syria and meeting Syrian officials, including Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, Kharrazi arrived in Baghdad yesterday and met Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi and other Iraqi officials including Iraq's oil minister Adil Abdel Mahdi.
