Iraqi Army fires warning shots to disperse hungry Mosul civilians rushing for food aid

Al-ZAHRA DISTRICT, Mosul - Iraqi security forces fired gunshots in the air on Tuesday to disperse hundreds of civilians who rushed a food distribution point set up by the Iraqi military in Mosul's al-Zahra neighborhood.

One soldier was seen beating a woman who was desperately trying to grab some of the food aid.

Iraqi forces have liberated some neighborhoods of eastern Mosul from ISIS, but civilians there complain of a severe shortage of everything from food and water to healh care for the war-wounded.

The Iraqi government has advised Mosul residents to remain in their homes as the military campaign to recapture the rest of the city from ISIS continues for a sixth week.
