8 Germans among ISIS fighters killed in Mosul airstrikes: source
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Eight German citizens fighting alongside the Islamic State group were among dozens of militants killed in US-led airstrikes in the ISIS stronghold city of Mosul in northern Iraq, a Kurdish official told Rudaw on Sunday.
“In the last 24 hours, coalition airstrikes against Daesh (ISIS) gunmen in Mosul have led to the deaths of dozens, including eight Germans,” said Saeed Mamozini, who headed the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) branch in Mosul before the city was overrun by the militants a year ago.
He said one of the dead Germans was known as Abu Arqam, identified as a top foreign ISIS leader in Iraq.
Coalition forces have been pounding ISIS targets in Aski Mosul, a region west of the city. Kurdish Peshmerga forces were reportedly helping the coalition by providing intelligence on potential targets.
