Kirkuk police arrests 7 ISIS members who fought against Peshmerga

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Kurdish security forces arrested seven Islamic State (ISIS) members in the city of Kirkuk who had committed multiple terror acts and raised finances for the group.

"Prior to Daesh [ISIS] they were members of Ansar al-Sunna and the Naqshbandi Order and have committed multiple terror acts including the terror attack on Hama Khan Haji Dara, the KDP commander and three of his guards," Kurkuk's police chief Sarhad Qadir told Rudaw on Thursday.

According to Qadir the group later joined ISIS and has fought along with the militants in multiple battles against the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

"One of them is cleric and he was responsible for collecting money for the Daesh gunmen. He also encouraged youth to join the group and a numbers of these young people have already contacted the militants," Qadir explained.
