Iraqi military reports progress on five fronts
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Iraqi military announced Sunday that forces involved in the Mosul battle against ISIS were advancing on multiple fronts, clearing ISIS bombs and booby traps from roads and homes.
The offensive, called ‘We Are Coming Nineveh,” said that forces were operating on five fronts around Mosul.
In southwestern Mosul, where the Iraqi Federal Police is in charge, bomb disposal teams “have cleared the area of planted bombs and booby traps,” the military said in a statement.
On the third front in the eastern part of the city, the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Forces were cleaning the districts of Bakir, Zahabiya, Khazza Qadisiya1, Tahrir and Wala of bombs planted by the extremists.
“At the same, several other buildings and the Khaza complex apartments, together with its water project, have been cleaned,” the statement read.
In the northern part of Mosul, the army’s’ 16th division defused bombs and booby traps left behind by retreating militants.
On the final fifth front, where the forces of the Shiite Hashd al-Shaabi are in charge, “the Tal Afar airport is cleared” of ISIS militants, the statement said.
