Iraqi forces recapture Samara, kill 150 ISIS
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraqi security forces have recaptured the island of Samara in an ongoing operation in which 150 fighters or sympathizers of the Islamic State group (ISIS) were killed, Iraq’s defense ministry announced on Thursday.
Ministry spokesman Yahiya Abdul Rasoul told reporters that several ISIS armored vehicles were also destroyed.
According to the Samara command, Iraqi ground forces and federal police were backed by US-led coalition forces in the fight for Samara.
