Carter: Coalition allies should send more trainers to Iraq
The United States Defense Secretary Ashton Carter called upon the American-led coalition countries on Tuesday to "greatly" increase the numbers of trainers to train the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) and Kurdish Peshmerga who are fighting the Islamic State (ISIS) on the ground.
Carter said, according to AP, that the United States is "certainly open to" deploying more trainers to the country but says such a deployment should be augmented by other coalition forces since he reasons that "there's no reason why the United States should do all that."
When there is an opportunity "to make a difference," Carter reasoned, the US is ready to do more.
Washington has sent 200 special commando forces to Iraq to work carry out raids against ISIS in strategic areas. It also has 3,300 other troops deployed in Iraq as trainers.
