ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - At least 16 Islamic State militants were reportedly killed Tuesday in a fight between rival extremist groups in the district Baaj in western Mosul province.
"The group Al-Hajj Nasser al-Mawla clashed with a group of Abu Musab al-Musli in a dispute over money and power in the district of Baaj, killing eight militants from both sides." Saeed Mamuzini, a Kurdistan Democratic Party official in Mosul, told Rudaw.
"Daesh [ISIS] is witnessing large splits in its ranks in Mosul because of power struggles and money disputes. For example, the Abu Omar Chechen group and Abu Muslim Turkmen which have clashed in internal conflicts .”
Since June 10, 2014, ISIS militants have occupied Mosul, the second largest city of Iraq. Since the group took over, many former politicians, soldiers and police officers have been executed.
