ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Officials from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on Thursday were received by leaders of the Iraqi parliament in Baghdad to discuss the investigation process of the Iranian missile attack in Erbil.

Headed by the KRG's Interior Minister Reber Ahmed, the delegation was summoned by the first deputy speaker of the Iraqi parliament Hakim al-Zamili, along with the Iranian ambassador to Baghdad on Wednesday.

The ambassador, however, was absent from the meeting.

Following the meeting, Zamili told reporters that Iraq and Iran enjoy good ties but "that doesn't mean it [Iran] can assault us [Iraq]."

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for firing a dozen ballistic missiles on Sunday, hitting several targets on the outskirts of Erbil and injuring two civilians.

The attack was conducted on the basis of targeting a secret Israeli base in the city.

Ahmed later said that the investigations conducted in the Region state that the targeted site was a prominent businessman's house in Erbil, affirming that "it was not a place that threatened" the security of the city.

“A committee searching for the facts of the attack will host the head of the Iranian file at the [Iraqi] foreign ministry,” state media quoted Zamili as saying.

During the meeting, Ahmed is expected to deliver a written report detailing the Iranian attack in Erbil.

Two separate Iraqi delegations from Baghdad arrived in Erbil following the attack, with the most recent being on Wednesday.

The second delegation, consisting of the deputy speakers of the Iraqi parliament Zamili and Shakhawan Abdullah reiterated that they will launch an investigation into the attack.

The parliamentary delegation is “forming a committee to investigate the attack and its damages,” with the results being reported to the parliamentary presidency and voted on by its members, Abdullah told Rudaw.

The recent attack was widely condemned by diplomatic missions, local and international communities.

The United States on Wednesday requested a UN Security Council meeting to condemn Iran’s missile attack on the Kurdistan Region while calling for Tehran to be held accountable.

Iraq late Sunday summoned the Iranian ambassador to Iraq, informing him of the country’s “objection, and strong, clear views.”
