ISIS releases pictures of mass execution in Tikrit

BAGHDAD, Iraq – The Islamic State (ISIS) has released pictures of a mass public execution of 13 people in the northern city of Tikrit, accusing them of being anti-jihadi Sunni tribesemen.

In three different pictures posted on the Internet, ISIS gunmen in black are seen standing behind a row of kneeling men in orange suits.

The next picture shows them right after execution, with the third photograph showing the dead bodies dragged into the street.

News reports quoted locals in Tikrit as saying that a mass execution was carried out at a major thoroughfare on Monday afternoon, and that those killed were members of an anti-ISIS group of Sunni fighters who were captured earlier this month.

The city of Tikrit has been under ISIS control since the Sunni militants stormed across Iraq in June and captured a third of the country.
