Iran-backed militia in Iraq kill ISIS ‘mastermind’ of Ahvaz attack
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Iranian-backed forces killed an ISIS military leader in Iraq’s Diyala province, a man Iran said masterminded last month’s attack on a military parade.
"Our forces killed ISIS military leader, known as Abu Daha, in Diyala," Hadi al-Amiri said in a statement, al-Dijlah TV reported.
"This is to strengthen security and stability in the province and we are in the process of achieving security,” added Amiri who is head of the Iranian-backed Badr Organization.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said that “resistance forces” killed the ISIS leader Tuesday morning, along with four others.
Abu Daha was the head of ISIS in Diyala province and had plotted the attack on Ahvaz, the IRGC added, according to Tasnim News.
Twenty-five people were killed when gunmen opened fire on a military parade in the southern Iranian city of Ahvaz on September 22.
ISIS and an Arab separatist group both claimed responsibility.
Iran fired six missiles over Iraq and into Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province in retaliation for the attack.
