US-led coalition launches 29 airstrikes as Iraqi forces advance in Anbar
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — The US-led coalition has announced the completion of 29 airstrikes against the Islamic State in the city of Ramadi in Anbar province.
The Anbar provincial council has also reported some areas in Anbar were retaken from ISIS by pro-government forces.
In a statement, US-led coalition forces reported that over the past two days 29 airstrikes have been launched near Ramadi to target 67 ISIS bases, and several ISIS combat vehicles were destroyed.
Iraqi forces issued a statement Monday saying there had been operations to recapture some areas of Anbar with the cooperation of special forces, Iraqi police and Hashd al-Shaabi Shiite militias.
Eid Amash, a representative of the Anbar provincial council, said areas near Fallujah like Karma and Saqlawiyah had been recaptured, and the anti-ISIS forces were trying to prevent civilian casualties.
Amash added ISIS fighters killed a number of civilians who tried to escape. The Iraqi army has opened safe corridors for citizens to be able to leave the areas where there is fierce fighting.
