Iraq forces make multiple gains in western Mosul

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region  — Iraqi forces have taken control of Naft, Aghawat, and New Mosul districts on Monday, the 22nd day of the third phase of an operation to reclaim the western side of Mosul from ISIS.

“After a heavy confrontation, the Counter-Terrorism Forces (ICTF) re-controlled Naft neighborhood and a wide segment of New Mosul district on the western side of the city from ISIS,” Maan Saad, commander of the force said in a press conference.

Maan added that the advancing forces “are trying to bring the Oil Produces Company, part of Sanaa [industrial] neighborhood, employees’ houses, and a train station [under control].”

 

An announcement from the Iraqi war media office later in the day stated that all of New Mosul district was now come under their control.

Meanwhile, Rudaw’s Ranja Jamal reported from war-torn western Mosul that heavy clashes have been underway since the morning and the group’s militants have been attempting to use car bombs, but coalition warplanes and Iraqi jets destroy them before they are able to hit their targets.

He added that civilians continue to flee en masse and take shelter in army-controlled houses, then they will be transferred to refugee camps.

It was reported on Sunday that one-third of the neighborhoods on the right bank were recaptured.
