ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani on Monday arrived in Egypt’s capital Cairo, heading a high-level delegation of the Iraqi government, and is set to sign several memorandums of understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian side later in his trip.
Sudani was received by his Egyptian counterpart Mustafa Madbouly, in his second visit to the country since assuming office in October. The Iraqi premier will meet several top Egyptian officials, including President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, according to a statement from his office.
“The Iraqi-Egyptian higher committee will hold a meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, which will including the signing of multiple MoUs in the fields of finance, trade, tourism, management development, diplomatic training, and agreements on exchanging experiences in various sectors and fields,” the statement from Sudani’s office added.
The Iraqi Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced that they have presented three MoUs to the Egyptian side regarding cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism, and antiquities.
Iraq and Egypt share strong relations. Several tripartite meetings have been held between Iraq, Egypt, and Jordan in Baghdad since 2021, during which they have discussed cooperation in the fields of security, military, and intelligence.
Sudani visited Egypt in March, meeting with the country’s top officials. The two sides reaffirmed their willingness to bolster bilateral relations in various fields.
