HASSAN SHAM CAMP, Kurdistan Region - At the Hassan Sham camp east of Mosul, which houses thousands of internally displaced persons fleeing fighting in the embattled city, it is a special day: there is going to be a wedding.

As the convoy of cars carrying the bride and groom arrives, fellow IDPs break out in cheers of joy.

Living under ISIS in Mosul for more than two years, where music and dance were banned, this is a chance for people to let themselves go, to express their joy.

For the groom, who fled Mosul alone, leaving his entire family behind, the IDPs are the family who will be sharing his joy. The bride hopes this will be a new beginning for the couple.
