Source: ISIS blowing up officials' homes in Ramadi

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — The Islamic State [ISIS] is enacting revenge on Iraqi authorities, soldiers, and other officials who are suspected of fighting the extremists by blowing up their homes in Ramadi, a provincial official told Rudaw.

“Since mid-May when Ramadi fell into the hands of ISIS, the group’s militia have been collecting information on local authorities and identifying their homes and properties. Now, they have started blowing up the houses,” Azal al-Fahdawi, a member of Anbar’s provincial council, said on Thursday.  

Fahdawi said dozens of houses belonging to Ramadi’s officials have been destroyed.  

Fahdawi added: "The number of displaced families has reached 150,000 and they are living in miserable conditions.”

The Iraqi Army and military officials have been criticized by local and foreign officials for its major defeat in Ramadi, where some units withdrew as ISIS took control of the area. 

US Secretary of Defense Secretary Ashton Carter told CNN last month that the Iraqi forces "lack the will" to fight the jihadists.
