Iraq reports more than 12,000 people flee western Mosul in one day

MOSUL, Iraq — Thousands of people have fled the fighting in Mosul between the Iraqi forces and the ISIS militants as the Iraqi forces are pushing hard to defeat the extremist group in the heart of its Iraqi capital city, north of the country.

 

In the past 24 hours, 12,458 people have fled from western Mosul, Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displacement stated on Saturday.

 

Scores of people fled down streets, pushing young children in makeshift carts, and carrying a few personal items.

 

The Ministry said that 89,245 people have feld western Mosul since the launch of the third and current phase of the Mosul offensive on Feb 19.

 

There have been clashes in the Bab at Tawb district over the past three days.

 

Halab Street, near Al Remah Square and Al-Shuhadaa Martyrs Park, was retaken by Iraqi forces.

Mosul Eye also claimed on Saturday it had received reports Iraqi security forces recaptured Rahma Hospital.

 

Iraqi troops reported Thursday morning that they had retaken the Moalimeen neighborhood and the Silo of Mosul in the western half of the city from ISIS militants and that they are pushing into Naft and New Mosul neighborhood in the center.
