ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Seventeen rockets were fired at Iraq’s Qayyarah base, which houses US forces, on Friday. There was no damage caused and no casualties.
“Seventeen missiles were fired at al-Qayyarah command in Nineveh province without causing deaths or material losses,” Iraq’s Security Media Cell said in a statement sent to Rudaw.
Local security forces have begun searching for "terrorists" in the area, the statement added.
The head of Qayyarah district Salih al-Jabouri confirmed the incident to Rudaw English. Seven of the missiles exploded in the air, he said.
Qayyarah is located 300 kilometres north of Baghdad.
There has been no immediate claim of responsibility.
