ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Iraq this month will start issuing international vaccination cards for those traveling abroad, the Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday, noting that the card is not a substitute for the certificate received after getting both doses of the vaccine.
The card is for vaccinated people who want to travel to a specific country that requires the international vaccine card, Saif al-Badr told Iraqi state media. “It is not a substitute for the well-known paper card.”
Citizens are required to pay 30,000 dinars (20.6$) to receive the cards, he added. Those who are not traveling don’t need to go through this process.
Iraq is recording around 6,000 cases per day and the Kurdistan Region more than 1,500, though both are seeing infection rates slow after record high new cases in a third wave of the virus as the more contagious Delta variant spreads.
In late July, the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority announced that Iraqis traveling abroad will be required to present international vaccination cards starting from October.
“Iraqi travelers are obliged to present an international vaccination certificate for COVID-19 starting October 1, 2021, as well as the requirements asked for by the country they are traveling to,” said Nael Saad Abdlhadi, head of the aviation authority.
The needed documents for the issuance are the vaccination certificate, a passport copy and a personal photo of the applicant, according to Badr.
Iraq recorded 5,988 new cases of coronavirus, 7,517 recoveries, and 58 deaths in the past 24 hours.
Since the start of the pandemic, it has recorded a total of 1,793,372 cases, including 1,615,773 recoveries, and 19,815 deaths.
