Baghdad: Three children suffocate to death in car
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — The bodies of three children were found in a car in Baghdad on Friday afternoon. It is believed the children suffocated to death after being stuck in the car for hours. Police have launched an investigation.
The children are a girl and two boys aged between 3 and 4. Police told Rudaw’s Mustafa Goran that the father was at work and the mother was visiting a relative’s house when the children got into a neighbour’s car, but could not get out.
The temperature in Baghdad is over 35 over degrees Celsius.
A “shortcoming” of the parents caused the incident, Majd Falih Musawi, commander of Baghdad police, told Rudaw, without going into detail. Initial reports were that the parents had left the children in the car with the doors and windows closed.
The police have collected CCTV footage from the vicinity in Baghdad’s Baladyat area to find out what really happened.
The commander said that they have not arrested the parents because no crime had taken place.
