Iraqi forces report little opposition in Hamrin anti-ISIS ops
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Iraqi military operations against ISIS militants in the Hamrin Mountains continued on Thursday with little opposition.
Security forces are in the second day of operations in the area of the Kirkuk-Baghdad road, and around Qaratapa, just north of Lake Hamrin in Diyala province, Lieutenant General Mazar Azzawi, commander of Diyala operations, explained to Rudaw.
Thus far, Iraqi forces have seized 18 mines, a motorcycle, weapons and ammunition of ISIS, he added.
“Daesh militants can’t fight and have fled the area,” Azzawi said.
Iraqi Security Forces launched the operation on Wednesday in a bid to oust ISIS remnants and armed groups terrorizing civilians and forces in the area.
