ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - At least one katyusha rocket targeted the house of an Iraqi intelligence agent in the early hours of Wednesday in Baghdad, according to the Iraqi Security Media Cell and country’s intelligence agency, with no human casualties reported; only material damage.
According to a statement from the federal intelligence and investigation agency, the house of Ahmed Abu Ragheef, lieutenant general in the agency, was targeted by a katyusha rocket in Baghdad’s Karrada area on Wednesday morning, in what it referred to as a “failed attempt.”
“It was a failed targeting attempt, and the damages are only to the fence of the house,” read the statement, adding that the site of the rocket’s launchpad has been determined, and that the perpetrators of the attack will be met with “the most severe penalties.”
A statement from the Iraqi Security Media Cell on Wednesday stated that the rocket was launched from east of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.
At least six rockets landed in Erbil province’s Khabat district on Sunday, targeting a key oil refinery in the area and causing minor material damage. No casualties were reported.
On Saturday, at least one rocket landed kilometers away from a military base housing American troops in Anbar’s Ain Al-Asad base.
