Peshmerga forces continue offensive against ISIS in Gwer

GWER Front – The Kurdish Peshmerga forces on the Gwer front have advanced at least 10km against Islamic State (ISIS) on Wednesday while coalition forces bombed the militants with at least eight airstrikes since noon, a Peshmerga official told Rudaw.

Qadir Qadir, the Peshmerga commander of the Gwer Front, told Rudaw that the Kurdish fighters have advanced at least 10km near the village of Abu Shita.

“Since 12 at noon the war began between our forces and Daesh gunmen while the Peshmerga were clearing landmines,” Qadir said, adding that fighting is ongoing.

According to the official US-led coalition forces conducted at least eight airstrikes against ISIS militants in the village of Abzakh.

The Kurdish Peshmerga have been repelling major ISIS attacks on different fronts since the militants suffered a major setback at the hands of the Peshmerga in the village of Bashir on Sunday.

On Tuesday, ISIS waged multiple attacks against Peshmerga forces with 400 fighters in the town of Tel Skuf in northern Mosul, where 40 extremists were killed and one taken captive. An American serviceman was also killed.
